Analysis of undergraduate curriculum of social worker officers in Turkey in terms of disadvantaged groups

Abstract (EN)

Social work is a multidisciplinary discipline and an applied science with a wide range of interventions. The aim in this field, which serves a wide variety of client groups; To ensure social welfare means that individuals and the society become self-sufficient, not dependent on others and protect their rights. In this direction, it acquires scientific and professional information from many different disciplines and includes many professional employees. It needs other professional professionals to increase the well-being of people. In this field, many different professions serve in cooperation and coordination. The Social Workers most employed in the field are an example of this. The term social worker is included in the Child Protection Law, and social work is a general definition that includes departments such as psychology, sociology, and child development. The social work area provides services to disadvantaged individuals and groups. Disadvantaged groups are vulnerable and vulnerable groups due to the situation they are in. Therefore, when providing services to disadvantaged groups, it is essential to know the client group and to know the intervention techniques. The aim of this research is whether social workers employed in this field acquire sufficient knowledge and skills in terms of intervention to disadvantaged groups from the courses they take during their undergraduate education. In this direction, a research was conducted based on the courses and course contents of selected psychology, psychological counseling and guidance, child development and sociology departments. In the research, 3 state universities from 7 regions were selected for each department, and a Turkey-wide study was conducted. In the research, using document analysis and descriptive analysis methods, courses related to disadvantaged groups were selected in the curricula of universities and the contents of the lessons were tabulated according to departments and universities, and a new table was prepared and evaluated on the basis of departments by creating categories such as children, women, and the elderly with the data obtained. As a result of this research, developing curricula in order to acquire sufficient knowledge and skills to work with disadvantaged groups in the field of social work or specifically in the field of social work, in which there are lessons for or related to disadvantaged groups in the curricula, the lessons draw a conceptual and theoretical framework for recognizing disadvantaged groups, and based on intervention and interview techniques concluded that it is necessary.
