Abstract (EN)

In this research, some pharmaceutical properties of algae isolated from the segment of the Tigris River within the borders of Diyarbakır Province were examined. Macroscopic algae samples taken from selected stations on the Tigris River were isolated by mechanical isolation method. The antimicrobial, antioxidant properties, phenolics and flavonoids of these algae were also examined. The isolated algae consist of a total of 8 algae species: Charophyta (4), Chlorophyta (2) and Heterokontophyta (2). These algae were identified as Cladophora insignis, Mougeotia adnata, M. elongate, M. sphaereocarpa, M. viridis, Microspora aequabilis Vaucheria aversa and V. frigida. The highest amount of total phenolic substances was in M. adnata (139.11 mg GAE/g ex-tract) and the lowest was in M. viridis (17.32 mg GAE/g extract). Total flavonoid amounts were highest in M. adnata (24.28) and lowest in M. viridis (1.76). DPPH, FRAP and ABTS tests were applied in antioxidant analysis and M. viridis showed the best antioxidant properties compared to others. In antimicrobial tests, disk diffusion and well methods were applied and when the algae studied were evaluated in terms of their antimicrobial properties, the most effective algae against E. coli was the DMSO extract of V. aversa (26.2 mm). Ethanol extract of V. aversa was effective against S. aerosus (21.7 mm). The ethanol extract of V. aversa was also recorded as the most effective or-ganism against C. albicans (26.3 mm). Ethanol-1 extract of V. frigida was the most ef-fective algae against A. baumanni (12.23 mm) and K. pneumoniae (14.53 mm). As a result, it has been determined that the algae studied, especially Vaucheria aversa and V. frigida species, have the capacity to be a source for future pharmaceutical studies. It has been concluded that they have the potential to make significant contributions to the world of science and human health with future biological activity studies.
