Abstract (EN)
Objective: The purpose of this study to investigate admission diagnoses, how long that takes diagnosis of brain death, basic laboratory tests, using inotropic infusions and rate of organ donation who diagnosed cases of brain death at Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital, Intensive Care Units. Materials and Methods: Records of 46 patients who diagnosed brain death in the Intensive Care Unit between January 2010 – October 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. 4 patients excluded because of poorly records. Age, sex, admission diagnosis, number of total days spent in intensive care unit, when they diagnosed brain death, rate of organ donation, number of hospitalization days and basic laboratory tests included ; blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinin (Cre), Na+, K+, Cl-, Ca+2, AST, ALT and using vasopressors/inotrope infusions were recorded. Demographic data were analyzed as descriptive. The statistics of study were performed with SPSS 18.0 package program. The values in the study were analyzed as average ± standard deviation. Categorical values in the study were analyzed with chi square test. Non-parametric paired groups were analyzed with Mann-Whitney U test and triple groups were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test. P<0.05 values were considered significant in this study. Results: 45.2% of cases were men, 54.8% of cases were women, the most cause of admission hospital were found CNS diseases as 50%, average of total number days in spent intensive care unit were found 8,4±5,4, the time until a diagnosis of brain death were found 5,1±3,1 and rate of organ donation were found as 4.8% in this study. No significant differences were found as cause of admission hospital between men and women who diagnosed brain death. Conclusion: The rate of organ donation was seen lower than average of our country's rate. Especially in regions which are examples of successful work should be taken a model to improve organ donation rates and peoples should be encouraged for organ donation in our region.
