iv THE BEHAVIOUR OF DIELECTRIC SYSTEMS IN ALTERNATIVE FIELDS (M.Sc. Thesis) Suzan ÖZŞtN (VENEDİK) GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY February 1988 ABSTRACT In this work the behaviour of the dielectric system in the alternating electric fields is studied. The effect of the external field on the properties of the spherical medium and the form of electrical field, electrical potential, and, using this potential, the dipole moment of the sphere is calculated. The general properties of dielectrics, and the suscebtibility and permit ivity concepts are explained. The relation between the frequency of the external field and the permit ivity and complex susebtibility is shown. Polarisation mechanisms in dielectrics are also explained.
