Investigation of digital nomads perceptions of leisure and recreation

The aim of this research is to examine the leisure time and recreation perceptions of individuals who continue their lives as digital nomads. Qualitative research method was used in the research. In this study, in which 'case study', one of the qualitative research methods, was used, it was determined by snowball sampling method. The research group consists of 14 people who continue their lives as digital nomads. The participants were first asked to approve the voluntary consent form and then they were asked to answer the questions in the personal information form. After the personal information form, the participants were asked to answer the interview questions. NVivo data analysis programme was used in the data analysis of the research. As a result of the study, it was revealed that individuals who live their lives as digital nomads are aware of the concept of 'digital nomad'. It has been revealed that digital nomad individuals define themselves with concepts such as thrill-seeking, mobility, learning by doing, continuous arrival, freedom, desire to succeed, happiness, socialisation, entrepreneurship and time management. It has been determined that digital nomads take part in sportive (physical) recreation, cultural recreation and touristic (tourism) recreation activities in their choice of profession. It has been determined that digital nomads include the concepts of freedom, comfort, happiness and high energy as a difference between doing their profession in a fixed lifestyle. Digital nomads travel both to various parts of the countries they live in and to various parts of the world. Digital nomads can work in any environment where the internet is available. Digital nomads who adopt the online working method can also earn their financial livelihood in this way. It is thought that digital nomads can play an important role in strengthening the unity of digital nomads as a new occupational branch in the sector as workplace recreation.
