Abstract (EN)

With the development of the Internet, its widespread use in everyday life has also enabled the application areas to increase. In this sense, the new media, which is on the rise through developing technologies, has influenced the unshakable power of traditional mass media. The advertisements that are frequently shown to the viewers, the incomplete or unqualified presentation of the contents, the increase in the duration of the series, the reasons such as the loss of the purpose of informing the public have caused the popularity of television to decrease. Serials, which have an important place both in the world and in our country, give viewers a different experience through platforms established through the Internet. Unlike television series, the fact that it is not aimed at commercial profit, the episode durations are short, the ease of accessing all the episodes broadcast in the season, the disappearance of time and space restrictions have made internet series more preferable in terms of original script and free character presentation. In this study, the ways of representation of journalist characters in domestic TV series on digital platforms were evaluated in terms of press practices in terms of news gathering and writing techniques. A detailed examination was made about the identity of journalism within the framework of features such as dialogues used, tone of voice, clothing style, body language. Within the scope of the study, the series titled Personality, Bird Flight, Unfinished Loves and A Night at Pera Palace were selected as samples and the expressions of the journalist characters in these series were analyzed by discourse analysis method. Analysis of journalistic identity representation Alex Barris' "Stop The Presses! The categories in the book "The Newspaperman in American Films" (1976) were made according to the classifications in Barış Ünal's doctoral thesis and based on the findings of Ehrlich and Saltzman about the image of a journalist. In addition, new titles have also been created within the scope of professional ethical values and principles. Thus, the definition of true and false journalism was made on the basis of both the discourses of the journalist characters and the behavior, attitude and appearance given by the profession. It has been revealed that journalism is represented as it should be in terms of reliable, idealistic, investigating, questioning, combative, reaching out to sources and confirming the authenticity of the news. The problematic aspects of press practices and journalism in terms of making scandalous news, not respecting the public interest, interest-oriented, taking money from their sources or giving money to make news have been conveyed.
