The effect of subthreshold bipolar disorder symptomatologyon neuropsychological profiles in children and adolescents withattention deficit and hyperactivity disorder

In our study, it was planned to detect and define subthreshold bipolar symptoms in the early period in patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who applied to the child psychiatry outpatient clinic, and to examine their effects on executive function skills and clinical psychopathology. A total of 210 children and adolescents aged 10-17 years, who applied to the Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine Child and Adolescent Psychiatry outpatient clinic with the diagnosis or symptoms of ADHD, without neurological disease and psychiatric comorbidity affecting functionality, were included in our study. Diagnosis of ADHD, psychiatric examination in interviews with the patient and family, and Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for SchoolAge Children-Now and Lifetime Form (CDSD-PL) DSM-5 semi-structured interview, Conners Performance Test (CPT), Wisconsin Card Matching It was put with the test and sociodemographic data form. It was determined that 72 of the 210 participants had subthreshold bipolar symptoms using the Mania Rating and Young Mania Scales administered by the interviewer. Rey, Digit Symbol, Visual Copying and Categorical Fluency tests were applied to the participants in order to evaluate the executive functions of the participants, which we divided into two groups. Again, in order to evaluate the executive functions of the participants, computer-based CPT and Wisconsin tests were applied to the participants. The Mind Reading from the Eyes test was used to evaluate the social cognition levels of the participants. When the neuropsychological profiles of the group with subthreshold bipolar symptoms were compared with the participants in the other group, there was no statistically significant difference. Likewise, it was determined that the social cognition levels of the participants in the two groups did not differ significantly.
