An investigation of cognitive profiles of individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and learning disability on Anadolu-Sak Intelligence Scale

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Learning Disability (LD) are the most common neuropsychiatric disorders in childhood. Intelligence scales are widely used in the diagnosis of ADHD and LD as well as many scales. Cognitive profiles of individuals who are identified to have ADHD and LD are used to determine the predictive validity of intelligence scales in the diagnosis of ADHD and LD. Anadolu-Sak Intelligence Scale (ASIS) has been used in Guidance and Research Centers operated by the Ministry of National Education beginning in 2017. In this study, it was aimed to examine cognitive profiles of individuals with ADHD and LD who were assessed by the ASIS. 102 individuals with ADHD and 100 individuals with LD were administered the ASIS. Between-groups analyeses showed that childeren with ADHD and LD had significantly lower scores than the normative sample in all the indexes and subscales of the ASIS. Within group analysis showed that both group's mean score on the Memory Capacity Index was significantly lower than their scores on the Verbal Potential Index and Visual Potential Index. Verbal Potential Index and Visual Potential Index scores did not differ significantly. Subscale analyses showed that both groups performed significantly lower in the Visual Sequential Processes subtest and Words Meanings subtest than in the other subscales. The results mean that the ASIS provides useful information in profile analyses of children with ADHD and LD.
