Perceived parenting styles as a mediator of the relationship between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and general anxiety disorder in young adults

This thesis examines the relationship between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and generalized anxiety disorder in young adults in Turkey. In this thesis, it was aimed to measure the effect of parenting attitudes on the relationship between attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Another aim of this study is to measure the effect of parental attitudes containing emotional warmth on generalized anxiety disorder. A total of 185 people participated in this study. The ages of the participants ranged between 18 and 35 (average= 24.63, SD= 5.26). For this purpose the participants were online completed the Personal Information Form, Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Scale (ASRS), Generalized Anxiety Disorder Test-7 (GAD-7), Beck Anxiety Inventory, Abbreviated Perceived Parental Attitudes Scale (EMBU-C). As a result of the analyzes, it was concluded that parental attitudes containing emotional warmth have a partial mediating role in the relationship between attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder and generalized anxiety disorder in young adults. As a result, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and generalized anxiety disorder were found to have a positive correlation with each other. In addition, it was concluded that there was a negative and significant relationship between parental attitudes containing emotional warmth and generalized anxiety disorder. In other words, it can be said that parents' high-temperature attitudes have a protective effect on individuals against generalized anxiety disorder.
