The effectiveness of worksheets on the approaches of the correcting misconceptions in language grammer instructions: Word type sample

This research report aims to determine the effectiveness of the work sheets, targeting to improve misconceptions related to the Turkish language grammar on the success of upper elementary school students. For the application of the approach, it was chosen the students 7th class of upper elementary school in Osmangazi town in Bursa city. There were two group of total 50 students. Each group is 25 students; one is for the control and the other 25 is placebo.For the study, ?the control pre- and post-test model? was adopted. For the placebo group the researcher herself prepared work sheets on the subject ?word types?, and for the control group the subject is taught using traditional methods. At the startup and at the end of research a knowledge evaluation exam applied and the misconceptions are detected. After analyzing the result of the first examination the work sheets are prepared.Qualitative and quantitative methods were integrated in the research. Knowledge test results were evaluated with quantitative methods and the questionnaire with open-ended answers were evaluated with qualitative methods. It is given the frequency and the percentages of the results with statistics. On the research, Shapiro-Wilk, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and Wilcoxon tests are applied.Finally these indications are gathered:?To teach with work sheets which are prepared regarding the misconceptions is a better way of teaching compared to the traditional methods.?A better motivation and participation is accomplished with work sheets?The final knowledge test shows us that there is a significant success of placebo group compared the control group.Keywords: Turkish Instruction, Grammar Instruction, Misconceptions, Work sheets
