As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to develop, researchers are increasingly interested in its potential applications in education, particularly in the realm of language learning. A literature review on AI usage revealed that research on this topic generally used AI as a supplementary tool to explicitly revise or correct errors. In addition, studies that use AI as a student-led tool of real-time lesson material creation remain sparse. Therefore, this study design explores a novel approach that leverages AI content generators, specifically those that can create customized text based on user-provided keywords as input. This study aims to investigate whether this technology can lead to improvements in students' L2 reading comprehension. To this end, this study is designed to implement a quasi-experimental design by dividing participants into two groups, with one group engaging with the AI content generator, and the other receiving traditional language instruction. Both groups took pre- and post-tests to measure any changes in their L2 reading comprehension skills. Additionally, participants' perceptions regarding the AI content generator are examined through semi-structured interviews. The results revealed that AI storytelling activity did not significantly impact the reading comprehension of the participants. However, shareholders believe it affects student motivation and engagement.
