Teaching values with character education approach in religious culture and moral knowledge lessons

Abstract (EN)

This research was prepared with the aim of examining the strategies of character education in 6th grade religious culture and moral knowledge lessons and the effectiveness of activities on students which are prepared for the education of honesty, and responsibility values. Experimental design with pre test-post test control group which is one of the quantitative research methods was used in research. The working group of the research is consisted of total 38 students, 19 experimental and 19 control group students who are studied in a public secondary school 6th grade level in Besni district of Adıyaman province, in 2018-2019 school year. Character education programme which was prepared within the scope of the research was implemented to experimental group during 12 weeks but wasn't implemented to control group. Honesty tendency scale which is developed by Duygu Sarmusak and responsibility scale which is developed by Alper Yontar was used. Before and after applied study pre test-post test was implemented to the groups by researcher. Mann Whitney U test was implemented to compare the averages of pre test-post test which is belong to experimental and control groups, and Wilcoxon test was implemented to compare repetitive measurement of groups. As a result of the analyses, the students in experimental group's points related to being honest, and responsible were determined significantly higher when compared to the students in control group, Thus the effectiveness of character education method was revealed.
