Abstract (EN)

Carbothermal reduction and nitridation (CRN) method used in nitride-based ceramic powder production is an effective and economic technique that has been studied extensively. This study was carried out in a modified CRN process. This novel approach in producing ceramic powders called dynamic CRN method (designated as DCRN) where reactants in granular or powder form are rolled and moved continuously during the process. Thanks to this action, compared with the static system KTİN, the final products / powders can be synthesised in a shorter reaction time by the DKTIN method. In addition to that, the powders obtained by this method consist of very small particle size, coaxial and narrow particle size distribution. It is evaluated this new method might also be suitable for the industrial scale production of the high quality and economic nitride based ceramic powders. This study shows that high quality uniax homogeneous particles of near to nanosized aluminum nitride (AlN) powders could be produced using DCRN method from aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3) starting powders. Based on the new powder production technique, the conditions of the manufacturing process and new design parameters for AlN powder production have been determined and demonstrated. After serious of successive tests very fine (below 300 nm) having narrow sized distribution uniaxial AlN powders were synthesized at 1450 °C for 90 minuntes using carbon black. In addition, by using this new method high quality AlN powders were also synthesized at 1400 °C for 120 minutes using C3H8 and NH3 gas mixtures without using solid carbon.
