Alchemy and meaning in religious traditions

This study addresses the importance of alchemy in some religions / cultures. Alchemy nowadays has been especially used verbally in language, but when addressing alchemy its content and historical processes are not talked about .Our recognition of its relationship with religious traditions was the reason why we worked on this issue. Alchemy, considered by some to be the ancestor of chemistry, and perceived as empty faith by others, is a comprehension and application with a deep philosophy of nature and human. Alchemy has existed in different cultures and traditions since ancient times, with different meanings in certain community. In our study after making explanations about the frequently used concepts in alchemy, we examined what meanings of alchemy have been loaded throughout the history. We also examined what is the classical literature on this subject and where it extends, and what the transformation process and preliminary chemistry means. After that, we tried to examine how alchemy is perceived in different forms of religious / cultural traditions which are understood in different ways. We have dealt with them under the titles of Chinese, Indian, Greek-Egyptian and Arab alchemy, and in addition, we tried to give information about Renaissance alchemy. In the conclusion part, we finished our study by expressing the results we reached with a general evaluation. Keywords: Alchemy, Religion, Transformation
