A research on Mevlana in terms of religious communication

This study aims to find the reasons and methods of Mevlâna Celâleddin Rûmî´s strong and successful communication with his audience. To this end, a literary analysis of Celâleddin Rûmî's work is used as the research method. In the first part of the study, the basic elements of communication as communicator, channel, receiver, message and feedback are explained with regard to the contemporary communication. Furthermore, the principles of communication in the Qu´ran and Sunnah, as the sources of religious communication, are extensively studied, with the aim to set the base for the second chapter. In the second chapter, the same elements are handled with respect to Celâleddin Rûmî's understanding of religious communication and its applications. The deep analysis of the religious communication in Rûmî's works reveals the negative and positive qualities of the communicator, so the positive qualities which must be possessed for a healthy and effective religious communication are defined. The messages which Celâleddin Rûmî sent, were classified and examined based on ten different categories regarding their communication value. The verbal / non-verbal channels, the features he is looking for at the receiver, as well as his opinions of feedbacks are further topics of the second chapter. In the second chapter, the basic elements of communication that examined in the first chapter, will be reanalysed based on Rûmî´s approach. As a result of the study, we can underline that the mystical, spiritual, rich and practical religious communication approach Rûmî put forth is capable of reviving the dynamics neglected by modern contemporary communication approaches.
