The effect of teaching listening strategies on listening self-efficacy perception and listening achievement

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of teaching listening strategies on 7th graders' listening self-efficacy and listening achievement. Therefore, one of the quantitative methods, quasi-experimental method with control group was used. The study group of the research consists of 60 7th grade students who are studying in province of Kars. The experimental and control groups consisted of thirty students. After the pre-test, the students in the experimental group were taught listening strategies for eight weeks, two hours per week, and the students in the control group were taught according to the curriculum and the activities in the textbook. After the application process, the post-test was applied to the both groups. The SPSS 22 package program was used to analyze the quantitative data. For data analysis, dependent t-test, independent t-test, arithmetic mean, percentage and frequency was used. According to the analysis of the data obtained at the end of the research, there was a significant increase in the listening self-efficacy perception of the students in the experimental group and their listening success in both text types compared to the control group. In the light of these results, it was determined that teaching listening strategies increased students' listening self-efficacy and listening achievement.
