Yoruk musical culture of Dirmil

The study of "Yoruk5 Musical Culture of Dirmil" was designed in five chapters with introduction. The literature review about music of Teke region, which covers Dirmil town, and local music in Dirmil was presented in the Introduction part. The first chapter consists of the aim, importance and theoretical structure of this study. The second part includes the analysis of music as a local culture, changes of local music, geographical, historical, cultural and demographical strucuture of Dirmil. In this chapter, the theoretical base which is choosen for analyzing local music of Dirmil and the place of Dirmil's local music in Turkish musical literature has been explained. This analysis includes reviewing the studies made on the culture and music of Yoruk (Teke) in Dirmil and examining the importance and authenticity of local music in Dirmil. Moreover, the factors which effects the Yoruk music in Dirmil, history, geography, culture and demography of Dirmil have been explained. The third chapter consists of the variables which is analyzed the theoretical structure of musical culture of Dirmil and how the data related to these variables have been collected and examined. Ethnographic method and case study were exercised in the field study in which, the quality and quantity of the population and sample related to analyzing local music. It was given which techniques were used collecting data in the field. The culture of local music was analyzed with the conditions of the socio-economic and cultural structures which formed this culture and local music performers and musical instrument makers in Dirmil in the fourth chapter. The performing music, making musical instruments, learning process of local music and the environment of performing music which are the conditions of social and cultural production of yoruk (Teke) music in Dirmil were explained in this chapter. There is an internal relation between the local music and the historical changes of socio-economy and culture of Dirmil. This relation were investigated in terms of local music in social memory, musical instruments, 5 Nomadic Turkmans groups have immigrated from Central Asia to Anatolia between the 9th A.C. and the 13th A.C. These nomads were labelled as Yoruks who were supported Ottoman Empire and Turkmans as oppositional groups. This labelling is related to the settlement policy of Ottoman governments in that time. ix performers, instruments makers, technical and physical aspects of musical instruments, their capacity of sound, the changes of local music in time. Moreover the types of transfer of the local music among generations was added to this analysis. In the last part, the evaluation of changes in yoruk music in Dirmil and some proposals about creating a connection between past and future of this local music were presented. It is also added the proposals related to if it is possible to sustain the old patterns of yoruk music towards todays with existing technological opportunities.
