Abstract (EN)

Our study was planned to determine the contribution of visual, auditory, and written learning materials to students' education among 3rd-grade dentistry students. Third-year students of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Dentistry were included in our study. The study included 90 students who had not received any practical training on scaling and root planing in their previous education. Students were divided into three groups as video, brochure, and live demonstration. (n=30 ınead group) First of all, all of the students applied toscaling and root planing on the prepared model, without receiving any training onscaling and root planing. Then, a brochure about the practical application ofscaling and root planing was given to the first group of the students. The 2nd group watched a video in whichscaling and root planing were explained practically. Participants in the 3rd group were given training onscaling and root planing by performing a live demonstration of scaling and root planing on the model. After different education methods each groups of students applied scaling and root planning on their prepared models. And each models than collected and photographed. Photographs that taken from models were scanned with a field scan programme. According to our study results, a significant difference was observed between-educated groups especially in the brochure and the video group. Students in the video group were found to be more successful than the brochure group. There were no significant differences between the video and live demonstration groups. We think that the active use of video in dentistry education will be effective. Additionally, in these pandemic times education via video online maybe beneficial in periodontal practice.
