Digital measurement and evaluation of crown preparations applied in dentistry education

The main purpose of measurement and evaluation methods in dentistry education is to determine the mistakes and deficiencies of students. However, an accurate evaluation of student studies is the most critical and important point of dental education. The aim of this course is to provide an objective evaluation and analysis of student preparations and restorations by using PrepCheck 2.0 (Sirona, Germany) program through Computer Aided Measurement, Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAI / CAD / CAM) systems. Our study was carried out with Faculty of Dentistry Term IV. students. PrepCheck software, CAD / CAM unit and Cerec Omnicam were used together with computers and phantom tooth models in the dental phantom laboratory. In the study conducted with 55 students, in the phantom models, chamfer type tooth preparation was made to the teeth 13 and 16. The models were evaluate both traditional and digital. A total of 6 different parameters were evaluated including underkat, taper, occlusal distance, preparation type, margin quality and surface quality. According to the statistical analysis, there was a significant difference between all the parameters and total score evaluation except the "preparation type" parameter in the comparison of traditional and digital evaluations of tooth 13. According to the preparation type parameter, no significant difference was found between the two evaluation methods. In the statistical analysis of tooth 16, a significant difference was found in all parameters and total score evaluation in comparison of traditional and digital evaluations.
