The evaluation of the 'maslach burnout inventory' and 'fear of missing out' scale in post-graduate students of dentistry

Aim: The aim of our research is to evaluate the burnout levels of dentists who continue their postgraduate education and the presence of FoMO (Fear of Missing Out). While preferring the specialization, the effectiveness of FoMO on it and the relations of FoMO and Maslach Burnout Inventory with each other were examined. Materials and Methods: 403 dentists who preferred to fill in the link sent from 2327 person who appears as an active student in the Higher Education Institution participated in the study. Results: 272 (67.5%) female and 131 (32.5%) male dentists participated in the study. It was determined that 96.7% of the pediatric dentists were female and 65% were single. High burnout was detected in 50.3% of dentists and 50% of pediatric dentists. It was determined that as the trait score increased in dentists, depersonalization and emotional exhaustion scores also increased statistically significantly. As burnout increases, dentists begin to worry that their peers are better equipped. The FoMOs and trait scores of the dentists in the high-risk group in terms of low personal achievement scores were statistically significant (p=0.017, p=0.001). Female dentists had higher FoMO scores than male dentists. Conclusion: It was determined that the burnout symptoms were high and the fear of falling behind their peers was at an average value in the dentists who continued their postgraduate education. System-level changes are needed to reduce burnout, increase job satisfaction for each dentist, and promote quality interactions with patients.
