The discussions of the nature of space in the early modern age

This thesis aims the show the discussions of space in Early Modern Age. More precisely, I attempt to examine the famous debate between Newton and Leibniz on the nature of space. According to Newton, space exists independently of matter. On the contrary, according to Leibniz, space is derived from the interrelations of bodies. The first section includes both determination of the origin of the discussion and the examining of the relationship between physical space and Euclidian geometry. In the second section, it is described that the conceptual frame defined by Descartes. The third section contains the definition of absolute space and clarifies the works of Newton. In the last chapter, we show Leibniz's criticism of absolute space and, what space is for him.
