Action research on interactive design course for interdisciplinary student audience

Today's rapidly-advancing technology makes it obligatory for individuals, who try to access information, to update themselves throughout their lives. As part of this fast advancement, it gains importance to raise individuals who know how to access information - instead of knowing everything- and interact with other disciplines. Within this context, the research subject is Interactive Design course proposal with the aim of creating an educational environment, where university students from different disciplines can participate and transform the theoretical and practical information and skills they have acquired so far into innovative product ideas. This study using action research method aims to ensure that the interdisciplinary student audience, which has come together for an elective course, blends the information they have synthesized with different disciplines into the interactive design process. 18 students of Kütahya Dumlupınar University Faculty of Fine Arts-Department of Visual Communication Design, Faculty of Engineering-Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Faculty of Education-Department of Turkish Education that elected the course in 2017-2018 academic year and a course coordinator constitute the participants of the research for observing interactions of different disciplines in this design process. Data collection tools of the research that covered 14 weeks of classes were personal information form for the course, students' logs, researcher's log, students' studies and semi- structured interviews.
