ABSTRACTM. Sc. Thesis?DEVELOPING THE TESTING MECHANISM FOR GEAR SURFACEFATIGUE AND RESEARCHING FOR THE IMPACT OF OIL HEAT?Bahadır İŞELT.R.Afyon Kocatepe UniversityGraduate School of Natural and Applied SciencesDepartment Of MachineSupervisor: Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmet ÇETKİNThe types of attrition occurred in gears and their formation mechanisms can still not beexplained exactly. The thermal energy produced by the working of gears is quiteimportant for attrition and it is the most important factor in the formation of somepitting types. Most of the pitting types arise because of the greasing conditions. In thisstudy, the surface damages in spur gears which are widely used elements intransmission of power and motion are examined. Some answers to the questions on thenature of the effect of working temperature on the gear surface damages are workedout. Experimental studies are carried on the Gear Fatigue Test Mechanism constructedwith financial support of AKÜ Scientific Research Fund. In experimental studies testgears? material, number of revolutions, lubrication grease and the load are taken asfixed variables and the response of surface damage to the variation in workingtemperatures are studied. Gear test examples? pre test and post test weights aredetermined, their surface roughness measured and the micro structure of the gearmaterial is examined. As a result it is found that the the surface roughness increases inproportion with the temperature.2007, Page:102Keywords: Spur Gear, Pitting, Fatigue, Surface Fatigue, Lubrication of Gearing, GearTemperaturev
