Horse at divan poetry

This study has been done considering the Divans and the texts in Mathnawis written between the 13th and 19th centuries. The published Divans, the Divans which are theses and Mathnawi texts have been studied and `horse? related items and components have been detected in these texts. These items and components have been evaluated by being classified.It has been observed that these horse related items and components differ from century to century. In early times of Divan Poetry, particularly, it has been seen that the horse related items in poetry written between the 13th and the 16th centuries took place in text sources less than the ones written in the following centuries. It has been observed that after the 16th century, especially from the midst of the 17th century to the end of the 19th century, horse related items were used in poetry much more. This case indicates that in the Divan poetry `horse? was made an elaborated item by being used more and more from the early times to the later times.It has been found that in texts, along with its cultural features horse was expressed in view of aesthetics. It has been also found that set phrases and sayings related to horse were formed as a result of literary interactions between poets.In poetry, `horse? was usually described by considering its certain features and characteristics in the context of lover, beloved, ruler and the person praised.Key Words: Divan poetry, horse, divan, mathnawi, literary depiction.
