The analysis of the vocabulary in Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk and Karachay-Balkar Turkish

Written by Kaşgarlı Mahmud in the 11th century, Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk is one of the cornerstones of the Turkish language. With its rich vocabulary, it is one of the most important reference sources for the Turkish language and its dialects. In this study, Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk, one of the works from the Karahanid Turkish period, is compared with Karachay-Balkar Turkish in terms of vocabulary. The words identified as a result of the comparison have been examined in detail in terms of phonology and semantics. The study aims to reveal the changes that have occurred in the vocabulary of Karachay-Balkar Turkish from past to present, and to identify these changes, reference has been made to Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk, a significant work in the history of Turkish language. The study consists of the following sections: 1. Introduction; 2. Phonology; 3. Semantics; and 4. Conclusion, Discussion, Recommendations. The "Introduction" section briefly discusses Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk, the Karachay-Balkar people, and the Turkish spoken by this community. In the "Phonology" section, the identified words are examined in terms of phonological phenomena, while in the "Semantics" section, they are analyzed in terms of semantic phenomena. In the "Conclusion, Discussion, Recommendations" section, the findings obtained throughout the study are presented with quantitative data.
