A comparative study of Compendium of the Turkic Dialects and Yakut in terms of vocabulary

The vocabulary of Siberian Turkic languages, which preserves some features of the Old Turkic period, is a very important material for historical and comparative linguistic studies. This study aims to compare Compendium of the Turkic Dialects, written in Karakhanid which is the last branch of the Old Turkic period, and Yakut language in terms of vocabulary. The reason why Yakut, which was separated from the common Turkic language long ago, is chosen for this comparison is that it has been an independent Turkic language that still preserves many archaic features. In this study, the data taken from Compendium of the Turkic Dialects for the comparison are restricted to the roots and derived forms of Turkic origin. The results of the study show that approximately 5100 of the 6400 items included in the analysis does not survive in Yakut. The number of words that survive in Yakut language is about 1300.
