Examination of the morphometric properties of the vessels waiting for the willis polygon with diabetes and hypertension

Abstract (EN)

Aim: Systemic diseases such as diabetes (DM) and hypertension (HT) and such can negatively affect the vessels in the Willis Polygon (WP) and may cause important diseases such as stroke in the clinic. It was aimed to examine the morphometric properties of the vessels mentioned above WP in these DM and HT patients and to compare the WP of healthy individuals with the above mentioned vessel measurements. Materyals And Methods: Computed Tomographic Angiography (CTA) equity of 168 (65 women, 103 men) individuals in our study was measured retrospectively. The individuals included in the study were divided into four groups according to the diagnosis. Group 1 (41 people) consisted of patients with the diagnosis of HT, Group 2 (44 people) with DM diagnosis, Group 3 (43 people) with DM and HT diagnosis, and Group 4 (44 people) with the control group. Diameters and lengths and variations of the vessels scanned in WP were included. Results: In our study, the mean age of women was 57 ± 1.1 years, and the average age of men was 59 ± 0.7 years. 86% of the individuals had adult configuration and 14% had fetal configuration. With fetal configuration (27%), it was mostly seen in Group 2. The most common variation was aplasia (36%). The vessel with the highest incidence of aplasia a. communicans posterior (AComP). From the vessels of WP, right a. cerebri anterior (ACA) diameter of segment A1, right a. the diameters of the cerebri posterior (ACP) P1 and P2 segments differed in both males and females in all groups. Conclusion: We found that the most common variation in our study was AComP aplasia. In addition, according to the Post Hoc table we made, we determined that the greatest difference in vessel diameter and length measurements in all groups was between DM and control group.
