The effect of diabetes school on the perceptionof self-efficacy in diabetic individuals

The study was conducted as a case-control study with 132 patients who meet the inclusion criterias in order to investigate the effect of diabetes school on the perception of self-efficacy in diabetic individuals who applied to the Diabetes Policlinic of Gaziantep Şehitkamil State Hospital. Data were collected using the "Introductory Information Form" and the "Self-Sufficiency Scale in Diabetes Management for Type 2 Diabetic Patients". The data of the study were evaluated by the researcher in the computer environment. For the statistical analysis of the data, the package program SPSS 22.0 (The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences-PC Version 22.0) was used. When the experimental and control groups were examined according to the socio-demographic characteristics, diabetic characteristics, diabetic parameter characteristics, subscales of Self-sufficiency Scale of Diabetes Management, no statistically significant difference was observed between the two groups. When the control group's diabetic parameters in the initial and 3 months follow-up were compared, the values of fasting blood sugar (AKŞ), satiety blood sugar (TKŞ), Hba1c and total cholesterol at 3 months were significantly higher (p<0,05). The values of AKŞ, TKŞ and Hba1c values of the experimental group were significantly lower than the baseline values (p<0,05). Prior to the diabetes school when the scale sub-dimensions were compared according to the experimental and control groups; there was no statistically significant difference between scale sub-dimensions and education status. After 3 months, when the scale sub-dimensions were compared according to experimental and control groups, there was a statistically significant difference in all subscale scores of experimental group (p <0,001). When the comparison of the scale sub-dimensions in the beginning and 3 months later of the control group is evaluated, general nutrition-medical treatment control, special nutrition-weight and total scale scores of the control group were found to be statistically lower than the baseline scores (p <0,05). The scale scores at the end of the 3rd month of the experimental group were statistically higher than the baseline scores (p <0.001).
