The effect of Diyarbakır-Kurtalan Railway line on settlements

Transportation is one of the factors that affect the establishment and growth and development of settlements.In this study, the Diyarbakır-Kurtalan railway line located in the Tigris section of the Southeastern Anatolia Region and the impact of this line on the settlements along the route are discussed. Studies and analyzes were carried out within the framework of the distribution, interest and commitment and causality principles of Geographical Science. The geographical factors that affect the construction of the Diyarbakır-Kurtalan railway line and the route are determined; The purpose of the line construction, history and current status of the information is given. The Diyarbakır-Kurtalan railway line is located within the Haydarpaşa-Kurtalan railway line connecting the west and east of the country.The Kurtalan station is an icon because it connects the east and west of the country with the railroad in an uninterrupted manner at the time it was built and it is the settlement where the last station is located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region.The 159 km Diyarbakir-Kurtalan railway line is located within the administrative boundaries of three provinces, Diyarbakir, Batman and Siirt.Along this line, there are six stations (Diyarbakır, Bismil, Çöltepe, Batman, Beşiri and Kurtalan) and twelve stops (Bozdemir, Uğur, Arzuoğlu, Ulam, Ambar, Seyithasan, Salat, Sinan, Kıradağ, Yaylıca, Merci and Yanarsu). From past to present, the Diyarbakır-Kurtalan railway line, all stations and stops on this line and the effect of the railway line on the settlements on the route were studied and evaluations were made. In this study, the revival of the Diyarbakır-Kurtalan railway line, which lost its former importance according to the period when it was first built, and the studies and projects needed to be done in order to become active were explained. In this study, environmental, economic, convenient, comfortable and fast transportation mode of rail transportation, re-weighting, improving and modernizing the lines, the use of high-speed trains, integration of main road, rail road and seaway to the national economy and the importance of the work for the local people were emphasized.
