Abstract (EN)

The human oral cavity is an ecological environment in which microorganisms coexist and diversity. For this reason, it is important to prevent the virulence factors of caries without disturbing the microecological balance in the mouth. Antimicrobial with minimal inhibition concentration and disc diffusion method of extracts of green tea, lemon zest, sage plants prepared in different mixtures with water without disturbing the original composition, which are used by the public as a natural therapeutic agent on the proliferation of Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus pneumonae, which are considered the main pathogens of dental caries. sensitivity has been tested. Considering the antimicrobial susceptibility of single plant solutions (green tea, sage, lemon peel) used as negative control; Green tea and sage extract showed high levels of bactericidal effect that destroyed S. pneumoniae and S. mutans microorganisms, while lemon extract showed an antimicrobial property with a narrow spectrum of action, with an inhibition zone diameter of 10.3 mm, by turning (stopping) the growth of S. mutans to a static state. Looking at the data of plant mixtures; It has a positive interaction (synergistic effect) on the development of S. pneumoniae bacteria with an inhibition zone diameter of 20-22 mm. It was determined that there was an indeferens interaction observed. To determine the minimum value, 5 dilutions were made in the range of 100-6.25 µL/ml for plants and herbal mixtures against test microorganisms. Considering the lowest concentration that inhibits the growth of both bacteria, the MIC value of each plant that makes up all different plant mixtures is 12.5-6.25 µL, and this inhibition concentration value proves that the combinations of the plants have a synergistic effect. To compare the antimicrobial effect of natural plants, ampicillin sulfactam was used as an antibacterial standard. When compared, it has been determined that it has the ability to prevent caries, that is, an antibacterial effect, which will provide the same oral microecological balance. This study proves that it has the potential to be an alternative to caries preventive treatments and the development of a new supplementary natural oral mixture that prevents the growth of two pathogenic bacteria and prevents the progression of caries. The fact that the combined use of these therapeutic plants is more effective than their separate use will guide the studies on the development of natural new oral care products that are alternative to chemical products in terms of dentistry.
