Abstract (EN)
In this study, the developability and usability of different types of geogrids were investigated in order to increase the bearing capacity of the road surface. Within the scope of the study, textile products obtained from natural jute fibers were transformed into geogrid form and used on the road floor. Studies have revealed that natural fibers, usually obtained from agricultural wastes, can be destroyed by themselves in nature. For this reason, jute textile, which was transformed into geogrid form, was subjected to surface coating process using different coating materials. In addition, geogrid materials obtained from basalt fibers used in the market were included in the study as road ground reinforcement in order to make comparative analyzes in the study. The study was carried out on an effectively used road sub-base material. Geogrids developed and supplied from the market were subjected to soil tests by forming different sample groups. In the first group, soil tests were carried out without using the road sub-base material geogrid. Thus, the CBR values, which are the basic physical properties and bearing strength parameter of the soil to be used as a reference, were determined. In the second group, the same sub-base material was tested with basalt geogrid. Thirdly, the developed geogrid was subjected to the same experiments without any coating, and in the fourth group, the surface of the geogrid developed from natural jute fibers was coated with bitumen. Thus, four different sample groups, including witnesses, were evaluated comparatively. The results of the experiments showed that the geogrid developed from natural fibers can significantly contribute to the bearing power of the ground.
