Doğal liflerle güçlendirilmiş kendi yüzeyini temizleyen boyaların hazırlanması ve antifouling performanslarının değerlendirilmesi

Biofouling can be described as the accumulation of living organisms on the surfaces that they get in contact with. Biofouling can increase parameters such as weight of ship, drag resistance, fuel consumption and decrease ship's maneuverability. Biofouling is prevented by using antifouling paints. Antifouling paints can be classified into two categories. One of them is based on release of chemically active substances from paint matrix. The other one does not require any kind of chemical release. Self-polishing antifouling paints are a class of paints that release chemically active substances from their matrices. Natural fibers such as Jute and Linen fibers and commercial fibers such as Rockforce MS730-Roxul 1000, Rockforce MS675-Roxul 1000 were used in paint formulations and the changes in self-polishing percentages were studied in this thesis. Biocidal agent econea, that was used in fiber-reinforced antifouling paint formulation, was analyzed by using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The eco-toxicity of econea was assessed by using an Artemia salina. Mechanical characteristics was studied by direct impact and crosscut tests. To gain information about antifouling performances of the paints field tests were made. In conclusion, natural fibers can be evaluated to develop eco-friendly self-polishing paints. Mechanically reinforced and ecofriendly paints can be formulated by using fibers in paint formulation.
