Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the cutting performances of blade and multi-wire cutrocks used in block cutting in natural stone factories were investigated. In this context, during the cutting of 5 different natural stone blocks with different properties with both machines, necessary measurements and analyses were carried out by considering parameters such as cutting speed, bead/socket wear, energy consumption, water consumption, plate surface quality and initial investment cost. As a result of the studies, the multi-wire gang saw speed was found to be 80 cm/h and 1,16 m2/h, and the blade cutrock cutting speed was found to be 20 cm/h and 0,38 m2/h. The energy consumption was calculated to be 244 kWh/m2 for the multi-wire cutrock and 332 kWh/m2 for the blade cutrock. The energy consumption of the blade cutrock was found to be 36 % higher than the energy consumption of the multi-wire cutrock. As a result of the analysis carried out by applying the TOPSIS method, it is understood that the multi-wire gang saw provides energy efficiency. It is seen that the amount of water consumed during the cutting of similar volumes blocks with the multi-wire cutrock is 50 % less than the amount of water consumed during the cutting of the blade cutrock. In multi-wire cutrock machines, different thicknesses can be cut at the same time with the sliding technique during the cutting of natural stone blocks. Since the cutting is more stable in diamond wire gang saws, the surface of the plates is smoother, there are fewer thickness and curvature problems, and the desired polishing quality can be achieved more easily thanks to the use of less abrasive in the polishing line. Since there is no vibration in the plates thanks to the working principle of the wire in multi-wire cutrocks, plate loss rates can be lower. The initial investment costs of multi-wire cutrocks are 3-4 times higher than those of blade cutrocks The fact that multi-wire cutrocks are not yet produced domestically also causes an increase in initial investment and maintenance costs. As a result of all these measurements, calculations and analyses made according to the TOPSIS method, it has been seen that the multi-wire cutrock machine is a more advantageous machine in terms of speed, efficiency and environment in the cutting process.
