Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of computer aided concept teaching with the Direct Instruction Model for students with low vision to acquire the concepts of cube, cylinder and cone from three-dimensional geometric shapes. Some prerequisite skills were chosen in the determination of the participants of the study. The research was conducted with two students with low vision attending the 1st and 2nd grades of primary school who met these prerequisite skills. In the research, multiple probe model across behaviors with probe trial, which is one of the single-subject experimental designs, was used. During the data collection process, three types of data were collected: effectiveness, reliability and social validity. The data obtained were presented in the research by means of graphical analysis. On the 7th, 14th and 21st days after the teaching was completed, it was examined whether the students maintain understanding these shapes they learned and generalize them to different contexts. Finally, the social validity of the computer-assisted concept teaching material applied with the Direct Instruction Model was checked with the participants, their parents and teachers. As a result of the research, it was seen that computer-aided concept teaching with the Direct Instruction Model was effective in acquiring the concepts of cube, cylinder and cone from three-dimensional geometric shapes for students with low vision. It was revealed that after the teaching, the students were able to generalize the skills they gained to different contexts and the permanence of the teaching continued on the 7th, 14th and 21st days after the teaching. According to the findings obtained from the social validity data of the research, it was seen that the participants, their parents and teachers were satisfied with the teaching, and it was found to be socially valid.
