Doğu Akdeniz'de deniz yetki alanı krizi ve AB'nin çözüme etkisi

The discoveries made in the energy field within the Eastern Mediterranean in recent years have revealed the existence of rich natural gas resources in the region. This wealth, which can be accepted as a positive development in economic and political terms, causes tensions in the region due to the attitudes of the parties that violate international law and which are far from reconciliation. In this process, where even the possibility of a multilateral war being underway is evaluated, countries are aiming to maximize their interests by approaching the issue within the framework of "the zero-sum game" rather than "the win-win strategy". The overlapping of the maritime jurisdictions of the Eastern Mediterranean coasts at many points, the unresolved Cyprus issue and the Megali Idea of the Greeks, which is not reflected in the discourses, the exploitation tradition of European Union, which derives its codes from its imperialist history, constitute the basis of the issue. Undoubtedly, concerns related to Turkey becoming the energy center in the region and making gains from the energy source constitute the invisible side of the iceberg regarding the reason behind the state of not reaching an agreement yet. With the creation of a de facto formation in the region, it is tried to expand both the sovereignty area and acquire the natural resources in the region against other riparian countries via fait accompli strategy. In this study, the existing conflict will be handled within the framework of maritime law and conflict analysis will be made within the framework of conflict resolution approaches. The position, attitudes, and impact of the EU regarding a solution to the conflict, as being a peace project, in the final analysis, will be evaluated.
