Sociological understanding of Ertan Eğribel who is one of the theorists of East-West conflict

The main issue of this master's thesis is to comment on the sociological understanding of Ertan Eğribel who is one of the leading representatives of the theory of East-West conflict that has a genuine position in Turkish Sociology. Eğribel is an outstanding theoretician and science worker who has strived to build an indigenous Turkish sociology in conformance with Kemal Tahir - Baykan Sezer's thought tradition. He is among the sociologists who has maintained an indigenous stance and objected the establishment of Turkish sociology as an eclecticist and alienated Westernized science to its historical-sociological character. He is of opinion that the Turkish sociology should be a native sociology with reference to the fact that it has its own historical experience and problems. The indigenousness of Eğribel is not an understanding that is disconnected from the world and the civilization history, and not an epic locality as well. On the contrary, his understanding of indigenousness notices all the deposition of the history of humanity in the context of East-West conflict, and involves transcending this conflict. Eğribel has a civilization-society centred macro sociological and conflicting perspective. The core sociological understanding of Eğribel is formed by East-West conflict. He considers the main dynamic of the world history in the development of a conflicting relation resulted from Eastern and Western civilizations. In other words, the main thesis of Eğribel is that Eastern and Western societies have particular realities and he considers their relationship to be conflictive. He has presented original contributions and developed the theory of East-West conflict founded by Kemal Tahir and Baykan Sezer. He performs analysis in a wide scope ranging from the science and method argument to the relationship of sociology and politics, from the critics of the tradition of the writing of Turkish sociology history to the inseparable nature of history and sociology, from the sociological analysis of art and literature to the integrative critic of the era of communication, and from the history of classical Weternizing history of Turkey to the "post" eras and global-local world order. This master's thesis is based on the compiling and commentation of Eğribel's sociological analysis.
