Özet (EN)

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the self-concept levels in terms of various variables among children between 9-15 years of age who are under protection in children's houses and children's home sites. Material and Method: This research is designed with descriptive relational survey model which is a type of general survey model. The population of the study consists of children aged between 9-15 who are under protection in the Children's Houses and Children's Houses Sites in the Eastern Black Sea provinces. In order to collect data, "Child Introduction Information Form" and "Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scale for Children" were used. Data were evaluated with SPSS 23.0. Data were analyzed using Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H tests. The level of p <0.05 was considered significant in the tests performed. Findings: No significant relationship was found between the self-concept and the self-esteem in children's homes and children's home sites. When evaluating with the sub-dimensions of the PSQI scale, it can be said that there is a meaningful relationship between physical adaptation and gender variable, and boys who are under protection are more satisfied with their physical appearance than girls under protection. Result: It is thought that the fictionalized institution care service models have difficulties in meeting the natural needs of children and that the relationships that have lost their naturalness in this structure will not contribute positively to the self-concept of children. Key words: Child in need of protection, Care models, Care of institutions, Home care models, Self-concept.
