Determination of the East Marmara Sea water quality

The Sea of Marmara is polluted with domestic and industrial wastewater, drainage water from agricultural lands, shipping, and loads carried by streams. Because there are settlement areas where the industry is very concentrated in the Eastern Marmara coastal regions, stations are determined on the coasts of East Marmara. It is aimed to determine water quality, to detect sources causing pollution, and also to suggest solutions for taking necessary precautions in the Eastern Marmara Sea. Parameters of pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, salinity, conductivity, turbidity, phosphate, anionic detergent, ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, boron and microbiological parameters were determinated. The values were compared with the criteria values specified in the regulations and the values in other studies.
