Abstract (EN)

The postpartum period is characterized as the first six weeks after the birth of the newborn, when the reproductive organs of the mother return to their pre-pregnancy state. In the postpartum period, the mother experiences physiological and psychological changes as the body returns to its pre-pregnancy state. Ensuring recovery in the postpartum period is important for mother, baby and family. In this period, it is necessary to evaluate the physiological and functional characteristics of the woman and to give a care that includes the care of the newborn. This study was conducted to determine the postpartum physical/functional status of women. The universe of this descriptive-cross-sectional study consisted of 8433 mothers who had babies between 6 weeks and 6 months, who applied to Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Gynecology and Childhood Hospital Pediatrics Polyclinics between 1 November 2019 and 1 February 2020, and 900 mothers were sampled. . Data were collected using sociodemographic data collection form and postpartum functional status inventory. In the evaluation of the data, mean±standard deviation, min-max values were given for numerical variables, and number and percentage values were given for categorical variables. For statistical analysis, SPSS package program was used and chi-square (X2) test was applied and p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. According to the findings obtained from the study, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the variables such as age, duration of marriage, education, income status and the functional status of women (p<0.05). In addition, as a result of the evaluation, there was a significant difference between the way women gave birth, the number of pregnancies and live births, the time passed after birth, the planning of their pregnancy, the methods of feeding their babies, having a chronic disease, and postpartum functional status scores (p<0.05); however, it was found that there was no statistically significant difference between women who received and did not receive help in baby care and housework (p>0.05).
