Determination of postpartum depression in 0 to 3 month old baby mothers'

Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted as a descriptive study, with the aim of determining in 0 to 3 month old baby mothers? pospartum depression.307 mothers who have 0 to 3 month old baby, accepted to participate in the research, and visited the GATA Pediatric Clinic, Health Baby Unit from April 2009 to May 2009 and Sarıkamış/Kars Health House from August 2009 to September 2009 were formed the research sample. Data was collected with ?Sociodemographic Data Form?, ?Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale?. Data analyze was done with X2 test, Fisher?s Exact X2 test and multiple variable regression model.Depressive symptoms were found 22.2% (n=26) in women lived in Ankara and 30.5% (n=58) in Sarıkamış (EPDÖ?13) (p>0.05). Women and husband?s low education and income level, matchmaker marriage, to be a housewife, unplanned pregnancy, displease about baby?s sex, partner violence during and before pregnancy were found significant factors associated with postpostum depression symptoms (p<0.05).According to research results, it is important for women and newborn?s health to observe depressive symptoms and interfere with early interventions in the postpartum period among women.Keywords: Pregnancy, Postpartum Depression, Nursing
