Examine the health risk during the preconcepsional period and women's status of receiving preconceptional care

Aim: The aim of the study was to examine the health risk during the preconcepsional period and women's status of receiving preconceptional care (PC). Material method: This study was carried out a hospital in Istanbul between November 1, 2018 - November 1, 2019. The population of the study was 4417 women who gave birth. The sample of the study was included 350 women considering 95% confidence interval, 5% deviation and unknown prevalence 50%, with a known formula by using EPI Info 2000 program. The data were evaluated using SPSS 20.0 program with the chi-square test. Result: Overall, 30.3% of women heard about the concept of PC, 11.4% received PC. It was found that as the education and income status of women increased, their rates of receiving PC increased statistically. In this study, none of the women who got married under the age of 18 received PC, and 12.9% of the women who got married over the age of 18 had received PC and a statistically significant difference between the two groups. In this study, women with a first pregnancy (20.3%) received more PC than women with two (9.1%), three (7.1%), and four (11.4%) pregnancies. It was found that women who had pre-pregnancy disease (18.4%) received statistically significantly more PC than women who did not (9.5%). In this study, women who conceived woman willingly (14.7%) received more PC than women who did not (5.1%). There was a statistically significant difference between the groups. Overall, 37.7% of the women who heard about the concept of PC received PC and there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: It is so important for healthcare institutions to inform women about receiving PC and to provide training programs and consultancy.
