Scale of womans perception of supportive care given to woman in labor

Objective: To develop a valid and reliable scale in order to determine the women?sperceptions about supportive care, which is given to women in labor.Method: This is a methodological study. The participants are 360 women who had givenbirth in two state hospitals between July and November 2012. Written approvals wereobtained from ethics committee, hospitals and women. The data were collected with thedescriptive and draft scale form.Findings: The content validity of the scale was provided with the expert opinion (S-CVI:0.94). Three factors that including comforting behaviors, education, disturbing behaviourswere created with exploratory factor analysis and factor loadings ranged between 0.38 and0.76. The model agreement indices of the scale were found to be x2: 1308.49, df:492,RMSEA: 0.068, GFI: 0.82, CFI: 0.97, NNFI: 0.97, NFI:0.95 as a result of the confirmatoryfactor analysis. It was observed that the confirmatory factor analysis supported theexplanatory factor analysis. Scale of cronbach alpha coefficient was determined as 0.94 andComforting Behaviors Subscale: 0.92, Education Subscale: 0.85, Disturbing BehavioursSubscale: 0.87. Scale of the correlation coefficient between the first and second part wasdetermined as 0.80. It is observed that the item-total score correlations of the scale varybetween 0.42 and 0.77.Conclusion and Suggestions: It was determined that the scale is valid and reliable fordetermining the women?s perception of supportive care given during labor and it is suggestedto use within the first 24 hours after birth.
