Abstract (EN)

This study is related to brake discs that are used in vehicles. In order to investigate the wear process of the brake discs, the mechanical properties of the heat-treated parts and non-heat treated parts were evaluated. Samples were obtained from brake disc that is produced from gray cast iron with lamella graphite and it was subjected to austempering heat treatment. The austempering process was carried out at 900°C and heat treatment was performed at two different temperatues as 275°C and 325°C by using four different cooling times such as 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. The tests of these samples were carried out in Afyon Kocatepe University Research Laboratories and Sakarya University Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Laboratories. Impact, hardness and ball on disc wear tests were performed on the samples. After the test, microstructure images were taken from the samples. When the micro structures and mechanical properties were analysed, it was seen that the heat treatment application improved the mechanical properties of the material.
