Abstract (EN)

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the psychiatric consultations of the Dokuz Eylul University Hospital in 2014 and 2019 from inpatient and emergency department units. It is aimed to investigate whether there is change over years in sociodemographic variables, psychiatric history of the patients, referred departments, referral reasons, primary diagnosis of the hospitalization, psychiatric diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and interventions. Method: In this study, 2554 participants consisted in 2014 and 2794 participants consisted in 2019. Statistics of sociodemographic variables, psychiatric follow-up history, referred departments, primary medical diagnoses, psychiatric diagnoses, reasons of referrals, treatment recommendations, and interventions, consultation rates of the units, suicide attempt and self-harming behaviors were made. Results: It was found that women were consulted more than men. In 2019, it was determined that less patients were consulted in the emergency department and more in other units compared to 2014. It was found that the most frequently referrals from the emergency department for suicidal attempt or thoughts, and from other services due to the emergence of psychiatric disorders or symptoms during treatment. It was found that in patients consulted from inpatient units, those with a primary diagnosis of malignancy were consulted most frequently. It was determined that the most common diagnoses were made in the depressive disorders group in 2014, and neurocognitive disorders group in 2019. It was found that the consultation rates from internal units in both years were higher than surgery units, and those diagnosed with delirium had a higher average age. Conclusion: In our study, it was found that in 2019, the rates of consultations to psychiatry department was higher than in 2014; In the subgroups, a decrease in the emergency and intensive care units, an increase in the rates of surgical and internal services were found
