High schooll 9th class students' acquisition level of orthography and punctuation rules

Özet (EN)

This study has been done to realize the success of the nineth grade students on the punctuation and spelling. The study is discriptive when overlooked or examined methodicaly. The group of the study is the nineth grade students in Ankara. Samples were 150 students from 3 different schools selected coincidentaly. The texts selected from the nineth grade language book were changed to incorrect and the students were asked to correct them to realize their level on punctuation and spelling. Besides, Likert five step scale has been applied to the students to measure their attitude against Turkish Language and Literature. It has been examined to realize if there is an important difference between attitude against the lessons and the success level. Additionally, some questions have been asked to determine their social and economical level. After that practice, the effect of the environs on the success level has been examined. SPSS 11.5 (Statistic Package For Social Science) programme has been used to analyse the data obtained from the applications. After the data has been processed the students who doesn?t have enough knowledge and understanding are also insufficent at the punctuation and spelling. The attainment to the target can be considered good for the students. They are at medium level at the punctuation. So between punctuation and spelling there is quite a meaningful difference on punctuation?s favor. Generally, students attitude towards vi Turkish Language and Literature course showed that there is a meaningful difference about reading-writing and writing-spelling and punctuation but not at their attitude towards reading-spelling and punctuation. It is observed that there is a slight positive and meaningful correlation between students attitude points and usage of spelling and punctuation level. So the students who have positive attitude to Turkish Language and Literature are having a meaningful success at punctuation and spelling. Besides, the students who are successful at spelling can also be successful at punctuation. These activities which are considered as two different skills meaningfully and positively support each other. They also have a positive transfer at learning and application. The points for the punctuation and spelling applications shows a meaningful difference on girls? favor. It can be said that the punctuation and spelling applications level of the girls? are better than the boys. The students level at the punctuation and spelling applications doesn?t show a meaningful difference with their father?s education level. Also the students level at the punctuation and spelling applications doesn?t show a meaningful difference with their mother?s education level. The students level at the punctuation and spelling applications doesn?t show a meaningful difference with their social and economical state, if they have their own room, if they a desk for themselves, if they have book shelfs. Besides the students level at the punctuation and spelling applications doesn?t show a meaningful difference with long term subscription to magazines.
