Effect of mobilization, exercise and music on frozen shoulder patients

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of our study is to determine the early effects of listening to 432 Hertz frequency music on pain, range of motion, functional status and quality of life in the treatment of frozen shoulder. Materials and Methods: Our study was conducted by including 40 patients aged 30-65 years, who were diagnosed with stage 2-3 frozen shoulder, volunteered to participate in the study, and whose symptoms lasted longer than 3 months.The patients were randomly divided into 4 groups. After TENS and Hotpack application, music+mobilization+exercise was applied to Group 1, music+exercise was applied to Group 2, mobilization+exercise was applied to Group 3 and exercise was applied to Group 4 for 6 weeks (18 sessions). Pain inTENSity was evaluated with the Visual Analog Scale, joint range of motion was evaluated with a goniometer, function was evaluated with the Arm-Shoulder-Hand Problems Questionnaire and Modified Constant Shoulder Score, and general health status and quality of life were evaluated with the SF-36 Health Monitoring Questionnaire. Evaluation was done twice, before the treatment program and at the end of the treatment. Conformity to normal distribution was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, group-based comparisons before and after treatment using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test, and between-group comparisons using the Mann-Whitney test. Kruskal Wallis test was used for age and BMI variable comparisons between groups. The effect size of the within-group changes was examined as stated by Kazis et al. Results: In the intragroup evaluation, statistically significant improvement was observed in pain, shoulder joint range of motion, function and quality of life in all 4 groups. When the difference between the groups was evaluated, there was no statistically superiority of music therapy applied in addition to classical physiotherapy in terms of pain, range of motion, DASH and Constant score compared to classical physiotherapy. Conclusions: In our study, it was observed that listening to 432 Hertz frequency music during the treatment applied in addition to classical physiotherapy in the treatment of frozen shoulder did not have any superiority over other treatments in reducing pain, increasing ROM and improving functionality.
