Özet (EN)

Objective: Examining whether frozen shoulder disease has negative effects on fine motor abilities Material and Method: In total 60 people, 30 healthy and 30 patients with frozen shoulder disease participated to our study, which is conducted between May 2018 and February 2019 at Istanbul. To evaluate general health condition of participants and understanding socio-demographic status, we used SF-36 questionnaire and socio-demographic survey. We also evaluated participants' fine motor abilities with Minnesota Manual Dexterity Test and Purdue Pegboard Test. In addition, muscle strength of the participants was measured. Findings: In our study, we found significant difference between Purdue Pegboard and Minnesota Manual Dexterity Test scores of healthy subjects and patients (p ≤ 0.05). At all tests we used to measure fine motor abilities, healthy subjects got better scores and in five of them the difference between healthy subjects and patients were significant. We also measured muscle strength of the muscles having effect on fine motor abilities namely, forearm, wrist, thumb and fingers. We observed significant difference in muscle strength of all movements in forearm and some movements of other body parts between people with frozen shoulder and healthy subjects. Results: Based on our findings, according to p ≤ 0.05, it can be said that frozen shoulder syndrome has negative effect on fine motor abilities. We also observed that frozen shoulder syndrome affects supination and pronation movements which have effect on fine motor abilities. Keywords: Frozen shoulder disease, fine motor abilities, grasping power
