Abstract (EN)

Today, the usage and development of airports has increased rapidly due to the increase in the world population, the rapid development of technological developments and the increasing demand of people to travel fast. As a result of this development and growth, it has become compulsory to increase safety measures at the same rate. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) divided airports into various categories according to the types of aircraft capable of landing and take-off, and in the light of these categories, determined the amount and capacity of the fire fighting and rescue equipment or vehicle required by the airport. The vehicles working in this task are called ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting). In this study, the design and dimensioning of the braking system of a four - axle and all - axle driven ARFF vehicle has been carried out in order to meet the requirements in accordance with the relevant standards. In addition to the brake equipment to be fitted to the wheels of the vehicle, calculation and selection was made for the engine brake and retarder components. As a result of all these selections and calculations, the equipment positioned on the vehicle was tested in accordance with the standard directives. The tested equipment is certified to meet all requirements in all circumstances.
