Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between social and play behaviors of children aged 4-6 and parental attitudes. Material and Method: The sample of this study consists of the mothers and teachers of 100 children between the ages of 4-6, who attend preschool education institutions in the 2018-2019 academic year in Mersin city center. "Demographic Information Form", "Parental Attitude Scale", "Social Behavior Teacher Evaluation Scale" and "Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale Teacher Form" were used as data collection tools in the research. Correlational research method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. SPSS 22.0 program was used for statistical analysis of the study. Mann Whitney U test was used for comparisons of two groups of data, Kruskal Wallis test for comparisons of three or more, and Spearman's Rho Correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationships between variables. Findings: It was found that mother attitudes were affected by the level of education, employment status, household income and the number of children they have. It was found that the game interaction and prosocial behaviors increased in the children of the mothers with a democratic attitude, the game disruption, breaking off the game, shy and aggressive behaviors increased in the children of the mothers with authoritarian and permissive behavior, and the shy behaviors increased in the children of the mothers who were overprotective. Conclusion: It was found a positive relationship between the Parental Attitude Scale total scores and the game interaction subscale scores, a moderately significant negative relationship between the game disruption and breaking off the game subscale scores, a weak negative relationship between aggressive subscale scores, a moderate positive relationship between the prosocial subscale scores, and it was not found a significant relationship between the shy subscale scores.
