Özet (EN)

The objective of this thesis is to compare on the basis of Existentialism The Brothers Karamazov of Dostoyevsky, an established master of World Literature, with The Poet's Novel of Murathan Mungan, an author of our own literature with a specific personal voice and language. There are lots of studies on Dostoyevsky and lots on Murathan Mungan, but up to the present none of these studies has been about some comparison between the two authors. The Brothers Karamazov and The Poet's Novel are here examined with regard to existentialist themes common for both novels, themes as freedom, hope, despair, death, immortality, suicide, alienation, loneliness, religion, belief, nothingness, emptiness, meaninglessness. As they are reflected on the protagonists of the two novels, these common existentialist themes are treated principally with reference to the main proponents of Existentialism. The existentialist features of the protagonists are gathered under common headings, and similarities and differences between these features are examined. In conclusion, an evaluation has been done in the light of those existentialist elements identified on both novels.
